1. General Requirements
JSKM publishes original scholarly manuscripts based on empirical research or conceptual studies that demonstrate scientific rigor, originality, and meaningful contributions to knowledge. Manuscripts must not have been published previously or be under consideration for publication elsewhere. They must not constitute an entire chapter of a thesis or dissertation.
Authors are required to prepare their manuscripts using the official JSKM Article Template, available on the journal website.
Before entering the peer-review process, each submission undergoes an initial editorial screening to assess its compliance with the journal's policies, manuscript preparation requirements, and publication ethics. All manuscripts are also screened using Turnitin or equivalent software, with a maximum similarity index of 20% (excluding references and properly cited quotations). Manuscripts that do not meet these requirements may be returned for revision or declined by the Editorial Board.
2. Manuscript Format
All manuscripts must be prepared using the official JSKM Article Template and submitted in Microsoft Word (.docx) format. Authors are responsible for ensuring that the manuscript complies with all formatting requirements prior to submission. Manuscripts that do not conform to the prescribed format may be returned before entering the peer-review process.
The manuscript format is summarized below.

3. Manuscript Structure
The manuscript should be organized according to the following order:
- Title
- Author Information
- Abstract and Keywords
- Introduction
- Method
- Results and Discussion
- Conclusion
- Additional Sections
- References
3.1 Title
The manuscript title must be presented in both Bahasa Indonesia and English. Each title should be concise, informative, and accurately represent the content of the manuscript, with a maximum length of 15 words. Authors should avoid using uncommon abbreviations or ambiguous terminology.
3.2 Author Information
Author names should be written without academic titles. Each author must provide a complete institutional affiliation, including the institution name, city, and country. The corresponding author should be identified using an asterisk (*) and is expected to provide an official institutional e-mail address. Although optional, providing an ORCID iD is strongly encouraged.
3.3 Abstract and Keywords
The manuscript must include abstracts in both Bahasa Indonesia and English, each consisting of 100–200 words presented in a single paragraph without citations or unexplained abbreviations.
The abstract should clearly summarize:
- the research background or problem;
- the research objectives;
- the research method;
- the principal findings; and
- the conclusion and significance of the study.
Authors should provide three to five keywords arranged alphabetically and separated by semicolons. Keywords should accurately represent the main concepts of the manuscript and should not simply repeat words appearing in the title.
3.4 Introduction
The Introduction should explain the research background, establish the research context, review relevant previous studies, identify the research gap, and clearly state the objectives of the study. This section should be written as a coherent narrative without unnecessary subdivisions.
3.5 Method
The Method section should describe the research design, participants or research objects, data sources, data collection procedures, research instruments (where applicable), and data analysis techniques. The description should provide sufficient information to allow the study to be understood and, where appropriate, replicated by other researchers.
3.6 Results and Discussion
This section should present the research findings systematically and discuss their significance in relation to the research objectives. Rather than merely reporting results, authors are expected to interpret their findings critically by comparing them with relevant theories and previous studies. Tables and figures may be included where necessary to improve clarity and strengthen the discussion.
3.7 Conclusion
The Conclusion should summarize the principal findings of the study without merely repeating the results. It should clearly explain the contribution of the research to the development of communication and media studies, together with its theoretical and practical implications. Recommendations for future research may be included when appropriate.
3.8 Additional Sections
Authors are encouraged to include additional sections where relevant, including:
- Acknowledgements, to recognize individuals or institutions that contributed to the research but do not qualify for authorship;
- Funding Statement, specifying the source of research funding or declaring that no external funding was received;
- Conflict of Interest Statement, declaring any actual or potential conflicts of interest;
- Author Contributions, describing the contribution of each author using the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy), which is required for manuscripts involving two or more authors; and
- Data Availability Statement, explaining the availability of the data supporting the findings of the study.
4. Tables, Figures, and Equations
Tables, figures, and equations should be prepared in accordance with the formatting style provided in the official JSKM template. All visual elements must be clearly readable and placed as close as possible to their first citation in the text.
4.1 Tables
Table titles should be placed above the table, aligned to the left, using the format Table 1. Title of Table. The source of the table, if applicable, should be written below the table. Tables should not contain vertical lines; only horizontal lines for the table header and closing line are permitted.
4.2 Figures
Figure captions should be placed below the figure, centered, using the format Figure 1. Figure Caption. Images and photographs must have a minimum resolution of 300 dpi and should be submitted in PNG or JPEG format to ensure publication quality. The source of the figure should be acknowledged below the caption when necessary.
4.3 Equations
Mathematical equations should be created using Microsoft Equation Editor or MathType. Each equation must be numbered consecutively on the right-hand side using Arabic numerals enclosed in parentheses, for example (1), (2), and so forth. Equations should be referred to in the text as Equation (1).
5. Citation Style
JSKM adopts the APA Style (7th Edition) for all in-text citations. Authors should ensure consistency between citations in the manuscript and entries in the reference list.

6. References
The reference list must be arranged according to APA Style (7th Edition) and should include only sources cited in the manuscript. Authors are required to comply with the following requirements:
- A minimum of 20 references must be included.
- At least 80% of the references should be primary scholarly sources, such as journal articles, conference proceedings, and research reports published within the last five years.
- Authors must use reference management software, such as Mendeley, Zotero, EndNote, or equivalent.
- DOIs should be included whenever available.
- Publisher city names are no longer required in APA 7th Edition.
- In-text citations use “et al.” for works with three or more authors, while all author names should be listed in the reference list according to APA rules.
- Article titles should be written in sentence case, capitalizing only the first word and proper nouns.
- Titles of journals, books, and conference proceedings should be italicized.
- References from Wikipedia, personal blogs, and unreliable websites are not accepted.
- Authors are encouraged to cite relevant articles previously published in JSKM where appropriate.
